Concrete Canvas

scWater Management applications

Since 2009, Concrete Canvas, has quickly gained market acceptance in the civil engineering sector as a cost effective alternative to conventional concrete. CC is currently being used by a number of leading contractors on projects for the Environment Agency and local authorities.

Here are some of the reasons why:

Rapid

Ten times faster than laying precast slabs or in-situ concrete.

Value Engineered

Installed price of CC is less than conventional concreting with typical cost saving of up to 60%.

Safe

Less time required on site. Less vehicle movements. Manual handling issues associated with slabbing are eliminated.

Heavy Plant not Required

CC5 and CC8 are available in 60kg and 70kg man portable batched rolls. Haulage routes for concrete wagons not required.

Easy to Use

No mixing, measuring or compacting is required, simply unroll and spray with water - no specialist contractors needed.

Environmentally Friendly

CC has a low alkaline reserve, a low washout rate and a low carbon footprint. CC typically replaces up to 150mm of poured concrete resulting in material savings of 95%. A single pallet fits up to 200sqm of material, meaning transport costs and CO2 emissions are reduced. CC is not classed as an irritant.

Low Maintenance

CC ditches prevent weed growth and erosion, reducing the maintenance costs associated with unlined ditches.

Durable

CC has double the wear resistance of standard OPC.

Environment Agency Approval (UK)

CC was approved for use by the Environment Agency (EA) Biodiversity team in 2010 for the Church Village Bypass Project.  Benefits cited included ‘surface roughness to provide diversity in the channel's morphology’ and its ability to introduce ‘sinuosity in the channel line’.  Several projects have since been granted approval on a case-by-case basis and the EA recently purchased CC directly for internal use as a weed inhibitor.

"The Church Village Bypass scheme presented our team with a unique challenge. The location and nature of the works required the sensitive use of appropriate construction materials in order to minimise the impact on the local environment. Concrete Cloth provided a means of rapidly installing a low carbon concrete ditch whilst maintaining the natural aesthetic of the overall scheme.”
